Commander John
Storm just wants to be left alone to complete his DNA collection, and
explore the uncharted regions on planet earth. But he always seems to be
in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The
Elizabeth Swann is an extraordinary hydrogen
powered ship that is solar assisted. Believed to be the world's fastest
H2 vessel.
She
is captained by John Storm, who is sometimes seconded to the Royal
Navy, when he is given the (temporary) rank of Commander.
SEAWOLF
& SCORPION
In
the SeaWolf adventure, John, rather rashly, decides to rescue Charley
Temple, who is trapped in Taiwan,
when China encircles the island with aircraft carriers and submarines, and captures the
state. He hastily equips
the Swann with MK48, Spearfish
torpedoes, and Ukrainian swarm drones. Then plans out a way to evade
detection on the way to the port of Kaohsiung, south-west Taiwan.
Enlisting the help of HAL, reminding his AI chum of when they rescued
Cleopatra from Guantánamo
Bay. As the blueprint for another risky
mission.
The rescue of Charley Temple from Kaohsiung would be a high-stakes mission, essentially a penetration of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN)'s most heavily defended zone.
Given the mission's similarities to the SeaWolf formula—a highly capable covert insertion/extraction against a major naval power—the PLAN would throw its most modern and lethal assets at the threat.
Here are the classes of PLAN aircraft carriers and submarines that could be deployed to prevent Charley Temple's rescue.
THE NAVAL BLOCKADE: 'PLAN' AIRCRAFT CARRIERS
To seal off the Taiwan Strait and the waters around Kaohsiung, the PLAN would likely deploy at least one, if not both, of their active, highly-capable aircraft carriers. These carriers would be the centerpiece of a formidable Carrier Battle Group (CVBG).
1. The Flagship: Fujian (Type 003 Class)
Role: The most modern and technologically advanced carrier, used for maximum air power projection and political messaging.
Why it's a threat:
CATOBAR System: Unlike China's first two carriers, the Fujian uses Electromagnetic Catapults (EMALS), similar to the latest US carriers. This allows its aircraft to launch with heavier fuel and weapons loads, dramatically increasing the range and lethality of its air wing.
Air Wing: Its air wing would include the J-15T (a catapult-capable fighter) and, crucially, the KJ-600 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft. The KJ-600 can spot John Storm's vessel (or any support element) from a long distance, making covert penetration extremely difficult.
2. The Operational Leader: Shandong (Type 002 Class)
Role: China's first domestically built, fully operational carrier, used to maintain a constant air patrol over the operational area.
Why it's a threat:
Though it uses a ski-jump deck (STOBAR) and is less capable than the Fujian, the Shandong is battle-ready and highly practiced in regional operations, offering constant Combat Air Patrols (CAP) over the strait.
Air Wing: It mainly carries the J-15 "Flying Shark" fighter—a heavy, long-range naval fighter that would be used to intercept any rescue aircraft or suppress hostile anti-air defenses.
THE SUBSURFACE THREAT: 'PLAN' SUBMARINES
To protect the carriers and patrol the shallow, noisy waters of the Taiwan Strait and the approaches to Kaohsiung Harbor, the PLAN would rely on its modern conventional submarines.
1. The Silent Hunter: Yuan (Type 039A/B/C Class)
Role: The main anti-submarine and anti-surface platform in the shallow-water environment (Littoral Zone).
Why it's a threat:
AIP (Air-Independent Propulsion): The Yuan class is China's most advanced conventional submarine, featuring an AIP system. This allows it to run its engines without needing to surface or snorkel for weeks at a time, making it extremely quiet and difficult to detect in the shallow, noisy waters of the strait.
Weaponry: They carry modern torpedoes and YJ-18 anti-ship cruise missiles, capable of rapidly sinking a rescue vessel attempting to approach the coast.
2. The Nuclear Sleeper: Shang (Type 093 Class)
Role: A nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN), typically used to patrol the deeper, outer waters (e.g., the Philippine Sea) to intercept any major foreign intervention, but one might be positioned deeper off Kaohsiung.
Why it's a threat:
Speed & Endurance: Being nuclear-powered, it can maintain high speeds for long periods and patrol deep underwater indefinitely. While nosier than a Yuan, its high speed makes it an excellent hunter-killer in the open ocean where John Storm might attempt a breakout.
The Air Support: High-Tech Fighters
The carriers would be protected and supported by the most advanced land-based fighters, operating from airbases in Fujian province, just across the strait.
Class Type Role in Rescue Interdiction
-
J-20 Mighty Dragon Fifth-Generation Stealth Fighter Used for Air Superiority to establish dominance. Its stealth signature makes it incredibly difficult for John Storm's side to track, providing the element of surprise for any attack.
-
J-16 Flanker Strike/Electronic Warfare Fighter A heavy, powerful multi-role fighter capable of carrying a massive payload. Crucially, a variant is used for Electronic Warfare (EW), capable of jamming all communications and radar signals John Storm might use for his mission.
Phase 1: Infiltration (Stealth Run to Kaohsiung)
The main threat here is the J-20's stealth surveillance and the Shang's (Type 093) wide-area search.
Phase 2: Extraction (Hack, Rescue, and Engagement)
This is the riskiest phase, requiring a window of opportunity to be created by HAL and exploited by John Storm.
The J-20 Threat: Annihilation of a Squadron
HAL's Target Acquisition Hack: HAL focuses on hacking the data links and Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) of the J-20 squadron leader, feeding it faulty targeting data or flight paths.
The Drone Swarm Strike: The Swann launches its swarm of micro-drones. These drones are programmed for "Target Saturation."
They first act as decoys, flooding the J-20's radar and IR sensors.
The remaining drones switch from decoy mode to suicide anti-air missiles, attacking the J-20s' non-stealth surfaces (intakes, exhaust nozzles, or radar domes) with minimal explosive charges, enough to disable the aircraft without total destruction (thus minimizing evidence and maximizing chaos).
The Shang Submarine Threat (Type 093)
HAL's Early Warning: Since the Shang is a nuclear sub, it's primarily a deep-water asset. HAL detects the increase in its reactor coolant pump noise as it tries to maneuver into a firing position close to the coast.
The Spearfish Strike: John Storm launches the Spearfish torpedo (known for its high speed and maneuverability) as an "Area Denial" weapon. He doesn't need to hit the Shang. Instead, he launches it to detonate a few hundred feet away, forcing the Shang to take evasive maneuvers, breaking its firing solution and forcing it deeper, away from the rescue zone.
Phase 3: Exfiltration (The Battle and Escape)
The high-speed exit is the final, climactic confrontation with the Fujian Carrier.
Carrier Engagement: The Fujian (Type 003)
Merlin's Precision: The Merlin AI controlling the Excalibur pulsed laser cannons is tasked with a specific mission against the massive carrier: Dazzling and Damage.
Phase I (Dazzle): Merlin uses a lower-power pulse to momentarily blind the Fujian's key fire control radars and bridge optics, buying crucial time.
Phase II (Damage): Once the Swann has closed the distance (operating now at 50 knots on foils, making it extremely hard to target), the high-power Excalibur is fired to target the CATOBAR systems (EMALS) on the flight deck. Disabling the electromagnetic launch rails on a few key spots effectively shuts down all fixed-wing aircraft launch capabilities, neutralizing the carrier's primary threat.
The MK48 Torpedo Takedown
The Mk48 is launched at the carrier's bow and stern. This classic torpedo attack focuses on hitting two structurally weak areas. Hitting the bow causes massive flooding that hampers speed and maneuverability, and hitting the stern can shatter the propulsion shafts and rudder, completely crippling the ship and forcing it to stop. Ultimately, the stricken ship, lists and sinks. A major psychological blow to the Chinese navy. How did this cheeky little ship, dare to challenge the might of China. Going head to head with all the latest electronic jamming, and coming out on top.
Escape Trajectory
The Swann maintains its 50-knot foil speed, using the crippled Fujian and the chaos of the sinking Shang as cover, making a highly irregular and unpredictable zig-zag course toward the deep waters of the Philippine Sea. The Swann's low radar cross-section means that once it is beyond visual range of the crippled carrier, its speed makes it impossible for any remaining unhacked pursuit craft to catch up.
