Commander John Storm just wants to be left alone to complete his DNA collection, and explore the uncharted regions on planet earth. But he always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, a former KGB intelligence officer is taken hostage as part of the plan of the extreme activists to destroy all life on planet earth, to enable them to stage a Phoenix like comeback from the ashes, and takeover from the leaders they see as weak.

Red Dragon's plan, 'Operation Grand Slam - Phoenix,' will destroy all civilization, history and heritage from thousands of years of human endeavor. But they don't care about that. They just want to rule the world, and to rewrite history they way they want to see it written. Their plan is write themselves in as the saviors of the world.

Hero of the Russian Federation (Russian: Герой Российской Федерации, romanized: Geroy Rossiyskoy Federatsii), also unofficially called Hero of Russia (Russian: Герой России, romanized: Geroy Rossii), is the highest honorary title of the Russian Federation. The title has a Gold Star medal, an insignia of honour that identifies recipients.

The title is awarded to persons for "service to the Russian state and nation, usually connected with a heroic feat of valour". The title is bestowed by decree of the president of the Russian Federation. Russian citizenship or being in the service of the Russian state is not obligatory.

The title was established in 1992 after the Order of Lenin ceased issue, follwing the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Working with other like minded cells, the extremists kidnap Vladimir Putin and other world leaders with nuclear capability. Holding them hostage, until their evil plan comes to fruition. After which their fate will be decided.

Vladimir is at first reluctant to communicate with his co-captors, but eventually warms to the camaraderie and black humour, as his fellow hostages begin to cooperate, in the hope of overcoming their guards and escaping.

Then when he is rescued and experiences help from John Storm as to being rescued and briefed on Red Dragon, using their stocks of nuclear missiles against them. His whole perspective changes, especially when the former hostages start coming up with a peace plan on board the Elizabeth Swann. An Impossible Mission.

For his valour and dogged determination to rescue himself and co-captives, and in the cause of furthering international relations, Vladimir Putin awards John Storm the Hero of the Russian Federation award, the highest honour, taking over from the Order of Lenin.
